Top Platforms for Job Postings in the Construction and Trades Industry

With the way the economy is going, I think we can all agree that one of the biggest challenges facing the construction industry is finding great people to add to your team. So, how can you go about getting in front of the right people? Where do these industry-specific people spend time and what sites are driving the best results when it comes to recruiting? Below is a round-up of the top online websites to answer these questions - some may surprise you. From placing an ad in the paper, to now having 100 different platforms at your fingertips, we’ve come a long way and you can really maximize your results by picking the right one. So which works best? Let’s find out! And if you want people standing outside your door ready to work, download our “Ultimate Checklist for Insane Recruiting Results.”

Right, so where to start? The first question is where does your demographic spend time? If you’re reading this on your phone, then you guessed it, your phone! So we’d want to start there, but remember it can lead searchers to their computer. For starters, we need to have extreme detail on who your ideal employee will be, but we dig in more on that in the checklist I mentioned. For now, we will solely focus on where to place your job postings.

  1. Your classic job posting websites like Indeed, Zip Recruiter, CareerBuilder, etc. are not necessarily where our demographic will spend the most time, BUT this is typically the starting place for the majority of job seekers. You can usually post for free at first and then see what trickles in. If the candidates are any good, carry on to the paid version.

  2. LinkedIn has slowly become the biggest player in job searches. Our demographic may not be huge LinkedIn users, but it’s now become the Craigslist of finding a job and where people go to find open jobs in the area.

  3. Speaking of Craigslist, it’s still worth a shot with this demographic. At the time of this blog, job posts are only $10 and if you get any traction, you can continue to move forward with it. It’s an inexpensive option that is worth a shot.

  4. Industry-specific sites like https://constructionjobs.com/ are also a great resource. Some other ones include https://www.ihireconstruction.com/, https://www.constructionjobforce.com/. These are the top 3, but there are a lot of options out there. Industry-specific sites are known to drive the most qualified candidates.

  5. Facebook was the best place for a hot second, but with their new ad targeting rules, they’re not nearly as powerful. Still worth testing out. Depending on the demographic you are looking for, this could be the spot.

  6. Monster is still a thing, and worth a shot as well.

  7. Glassdoor is the number 1 spot job seekers go for company reviews. If your GlassDoor feedback is good, it can attract top talent. However, the reviews and feedback can make it or break it for you.

  8. Check your local association memberships for apprenticeship options. Here in Jacksonville, we have NEFBA (Northeast Florida Builders Association), The Chamber, and more places to look. Each city has a version of their own and would be a great resource to use.

  9. With Google being the most used search engine, Google for Jobs is a powerful source to get the most reach. When job seekers are on the hunt, step 1 is to Google their desired job title. If your job doesn’t make it there, then you could be missing out on top talent. This is a key resource.
